Emergency One Completes 52 -Appliance Contract for West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service
Emergency One is proud to announce the successful completion of a major build contract for West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service (WYFRS), with the final two pumping appliances recently delivered, marking the end of a 52-vehicle rollout.
The contract, which saw on average one appliance delivered each week, was no small feat. Thanks to the dedication and precision of Emergency One’s production team, each appliance was delivered on schedule and to the highest standards of build quality.
“These appliances are a great addition to our fleet,” said Glynn Richardson, Head of Transport & Logistics for West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service. “They provide more efficient operational systems and, crucially, safer working conditions for our firefighters, whether that’s through improved locker layouts, updated technology or clean cab solutions.”
Unlike standard pumping appliances, the West Yorkshire specification includes several enhanced operational features:
- A 2500-litre water tank, making the vehicle adaptable to a wide range of fire and rescue scenarios
- Pull-out BA lockers on both sides, adjustable in height to suit the firefighter
- Contaminated kit stowage lock at the rear with full access step to support the service’s clean cab initiative, helping to reduce exposure to harmful substances
- A power beam ladder gantry, which automatically lowers ladders to a safe working height — a vital safety improvement, particularly given the increased body height from additional locker space and increased water tank capacity.
- Enhanced cab layout places crew welfare at the forefront, featuring thoughtfully designed seating with convenient USB charging points and cup holders.
- Cross Cab provides dedicated space for PPE, personal belongings, and document stowage, ensuring everything is neatly organised and easily accessible.
Brian Girvan, Production Director at Emergency One, commented:
“Delivering 52 appliances in this kind of schedule is a real achievement, and it’s a testament to the commitment of our build and support teams. More importantly, we’re proud to deliver vehicles that not only meet the operational needs of West Yorkshire but also help enhance firefighter safety and support cleaner, more modern working environments.”
The final appliances are now ready to become fully operational across the region, reinforcing Emergency One’s position as the UK’s leading manufacturer of fire and rescue vehicles.
